Telford baby kidnap: Woman pleads guilty to snatching nine-week-old boy
A Telford woman has pleaded guilty to kidnapping a nine-week-old baby boy from his family home in the town.
Kelly Mahon, 41, of John Broad Avenue, Arleston, admitted kidnapping the baby on February 24 at Shrewsbury Crown Court today.
The baby's family were in court as Mahon, wearing a grey sweatshirt, spoke to confirm her name and plead guilty to kidnapping the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
Police launched a huge manhunt and national appeal after the baby boy was reported missing from his family home, also in Arleston.
He was found safe and well almost three hours later.
The defence today accepted there was prior planning of kidnap by Mahon "at least to a degree", but denied she had visited the street of the baby's home the day before.
Mahon was arrested on the afternoon of the abduction.
Judge Robin Onions said it was a "very serious offence which no doubt caused considerable upset" and that it was "inevitable" she will go to prison.
Ahead of Mahon's sentencing, which will be on May 12, Judge Onions called for a pre-sentence report and psychiatric report to be prepared, and called for the "issue of dangerousness" to be dealt with by the probation service in their report and the doctor who will be carrying out the psychiatric report.
Last month Mahon had appeared at Telford Magistrates Court where she only spoke to confirm her name and address.
Once the baby was found, officers thanked the public for its support after many people shared the police's appeal on social media or helped provide information for the search.
