The Ford Ka was discovered on fire on the verge of Whitchurch Drive – one of Telford's busiest roads.
Firefighters based nearby in Wellington were called out shortly after 5.30pm to put the flames out.
The road was not closed and traffic continued to pass by the scene.
A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was caused by "accidental ignition" but was unable to comment further.
The fire crew used breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet to bring the flames under control.
Firefighters were at the scene for about an area putting out the fire and making the area safe.
