Jan Mapp posted the photo of a World War One shell on social media while watching a history programme on television at her home in Chirk.

Mrs Mapp was urged by over 100 friends on Facebook to phone the police and she was told not to touch it.

Within half an hour on Wednesday a bomb disposal unit, dispatched from Chester, arrived at the home on Bron Y Waun to make sure the 24cm tall shell was not live.

After checking it out they reassured Mrs Mapp the shell - which is about 100-years-old - was safe.

She said she and her husband dug it up four years previously when living in St Martins with her husband and they had deciseded to keep it as rare ornament.
