Jailed: Former footballer who caused death crash which killed Welshpool teenager
A former footballer who caused the death of a Mid Wales teenager has been jailed for eight and a half years.
Isobelle Woodall, from Belan, near Welshpool, died in a crash in Wigan last August.
Her boyfriend, Steven was seriously injured.
As well as the jail sentence he was disqualified from driving for 10 years and will be forced to undergo an extended test when he is eligible to reapply for a driving licence.
On the evening of August 16, Rudd went into Wigan town centre and spent a number of hours drinking alcohol before getting into a Ford Focus ST with the intention of driving home.
He drove at speed along Central Parkway in Wigan before attempting to overtake another vehicle on a blind corner.
Greater Manchester Police said Rudd's car collided with an oncoming Peugeot 206 and hit it at such force that the car did a full 360 degree rotation and landed back on its wheels.
Isobelle, who was known as Izzy, suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Constable Neil Pennington of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The reckless actions of Stuart Rudd last August took the life of a young woman who had her whole future ahead of her.
"He has robbed a loving family of a sister and a daughter, leaving them absolutely distraught.
"The fact that he has been sentenced for a catalogue of driving offences shows that him driving drunk was not a momentary lapse in judgement but the actions of a man who does not care about the laws of the road.
"I hope the sentence passed will bring Isobelle's family some form of closure for their devastating loss."
Isobelle worked for Manor Adventure, an outdoor pursuits company based in Craven Arms.
At the time of her death her younger sister Emily, said she would "forever be alive" in the hearts of her family.
Rudd is the former assistant manager of Salford FC.
