Co-defendant Rachel Sherwood, 24, had 'turned a blind eye' and allowed another to cultivate 10 cannabis plants in the loft of her Mid Wales home.

Sherwood, 24, of Llys yr Orsaf, Llanfyllin, had admitted the charge in September of last year but her sentence was adjourned pending the trial of others, including her former boyfriend.

Ben Everton, 26, of High Street , Llanfyllin, denied possessing cocaine with intent to supply and producing cannabis. He was recently convicted and jailed for seven years – with a concurrent eight-month prison sentence for the cannabis offence. The potential street value of the 10 cannabis plants was said to be between £2,000 and £8,000, said prosecuting barrister Simon Rogers.

Philip Clemo, defending, said that his client was a young woman of previous good character who had not offended since the production charge which dated back to November 2014.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said that it was a fairly sophisticated but small-scale growing operation which could produce an average of £4,000 worth of drugs. He took into account that she was the sole carer for two young children and had a third on the way.

Sherwood was placed on a 12-month community order with 20 days rehabilitation.
