Richard Jandrell, a Year 9 student at The Marches School in Oswestry, was victorious at the recent Kickboxing Grand Slam event in Birmingham.

The teenager also won first in the continuous fighting, as well as coming in second place in the semi-contact category, on April 10 at the North West Open held in Chester.

These wins mean that Richard will represent his country in October at the European Kickboxing Championships.

The 14-year-old, who has been competing since the age of five, trains for both kung fu and kickboxing with his instructor Brian Nelson.

Such is Richard's dedication to the sport, he juggles his school work with his kickboxing as he trains up to five times a week.

Richard said he was "delighted" with his recent victories.

He said: "I am really happy to have won and will continue to train hard to succeed."
