Homes plan backed for Radbrook College
Final approval has been given to build 120 houses on the site of a historic former college site.
Planning officers at Shropshire Council have given official consent for the redevelopment of Shrewsbury's former Radbrook College site.
The development was granted planning consent in May last year but negotiations over planning conditions continued before the final decision notice was issued.
As part of the conditions, the proposed mini-roundabout junction with the site access road and Radbrook Road must be completed before the first home is occupied.
The site was jointly owned by the Radbrook Foundation and Shropshire Council.
The original application set out a proposal for 17 of the 120 houses on the foundation section of the development to be social rented housing.
Earlier this year Floreat Homes agreed to buy the 14-acre site. Matthew Hill, the company's head of development, said at the time the company was thrilled to have secured a site with "huge potential".
The land was previously home to Radbrook College, which was set up in 1898, and had been used by Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology up until 2014.
Two separate planning applications from the council and the foundation were approved last year.
The development will retain the main section of the original Victorian college building, its lodge, and Walker House. It is yet to be seen whether the suggested layout will be followed.
It originally included seven flats in Walker House and 30 houses on the Shropshire Council site, and 96 houses and 13 flats, in the original main college building on the Radbrook Foundation site.
Some houses could be built on the former tennis courts and playing fields.
Shropshire Council owned the Radbrook campus college gardens, and the foundation owned the Radbrook Centre.
