Meet the cast iron bull which could be heading to Whitchurch
This is the first glimpse of a bull which could be making its way to a Shropshire town.
Whitchurch is looking to replicate Birmingham by installing its own bull in its own version of the Bullring.
The cast iron bull, which would be about six foot high and eight foot long, would be similar to the bronze bull by Birmingham's Bullring Shopping Centre.
Councillor John Ebbs, of Whitchurch Town Council, said: "We have got no street art in Whitchurch – we must be the only town in Shropshire without a statue.
"It is a bit of history and we can put a board up to explain what it's all about. We can make people aware of Whitchurch history which is currently lacking."
The bull would initially be loaned from the British Ironwork Centre, near Oswestry, for a year.
Councillor Ebbs said a place outside Boots has been identified where the bull could go.
"We have had a meeting with the highways department and they have agreed in principle if we wanted it outside Boots they would have no objection," he said.
Councillor Ebbs said they have been told by Shropshire Council they need to have a base installed to put the bull on.
"I don't know how much that will cost so we will ask the Heritage Lottery Fund to contribute to it. We will then go back to the town council and see if they still think it's worth it," he added.
