Bike4Life: Record breaking Shropshire charity ride raised over £63,000
A record-breaking 12,000 people attended this year's Bike4Life – and raised more than £63,000, organisers said today.
The riders and pillions were led by motorcycle and truck racing legend Steve Parrish.
In total, the event raised £63,500 for Midlands Air Ambulance, over 40 per cent more than 2015's total.
Jason Levy, fundraising and marketing director for charity, and chair of the Bike4Life organising committee, said today: "Our ride out is always a much anticipated event for bikers, and this year was certainly our biggest yet.
"Due to the growing popularity of the festival, and thanks to the support from RAF Cosford, we moved the event to the airfield to accommodate the 12,000 visitors, a third more than previous years.
"Over 35 per cent of the incidents our three air ambulances attend are road traffic accidents, and sadly a great number of these involve motorcyclists in urgent need of medical attention.
"The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, and a huge thank you goes to the bikers and pillions who did the ride out and to everyone who attended the festival for their support of our event and the charity."
Vicki Bristow, of Safer Roads Partnership, added: "The event was a great opportunity for us to talk to bikers about issues that concerned them on the roads.
"Our region is popular with bikers and many riders are attracted to the area, particularly at weekends and when the weather is good.
"It was great to promote the subsidised training courses that we have on offer and to generally chat to bikers across the region."
Next year the Bike4Life Ride Out and Festival will take place on May 7.
Bike4Life is also in collaboration with Safer Roads Partnership and West Mercia Police who work tirelessly to promote road safety and to help reduce the number of road traffic collisions across West Mercia.
