Lorry driver taken to hospital after crash closes road near Whitchurch

A lorry driver was taken to hospital today after his vehicle left the road and crashed through several trees near Whitchurch.

It happened on the A525 in Broughall at about 2.30pm.

The driver, a man in his 50s, did not appear to have any significant injuries and was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital as a precaution.

Police were forced to close the road between Waymills in Whitchurch and Whitchurch Road in Burleydam.

Firefighters from Prees, Wellington and Whitchurch were called to the scene, but they were not needed.

No other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the crash.
