Severn Trent has revealed work to lay five kilometres of new pipes in Oteley Road, Longden Road and Roman Road in Shrewsbury is two weeks ahead of schedule and will be finished by July.

Road closures on all three roads have led to traffic chaos and caused frustration for motorists for several months since work started last autumn.

Tailbacks have been reported throughout the town and connecting routes via Meole Brace and Abbey Foregate as well as along the A5.

Rebecca Murphy, spokeswoman for Severn Trent, said: "Our teams have worked hard and we're pleased to announce that we're two weeks ahead of schedule and have now laid three kilometres of pipes.

"We'd like to thank the local residents for their continued patience and support. We're now 80 per cent of the way through the project, which will be completed in July."
