Kerrie Fitzpatrick Petty has launched a campaign to raise £36,000 in the hope of travelling across the Atlantic for proton therapy to treat her illness.

Mrs Fitzpatrick was diagnosed with multiple endocrine neoplasia, a disorder that affects the body's hormone-producing glands, after suffering from weight gain, headaches and other symptoms.

She was set to undergo surgery today to remove her adrenal glands, but she has a tumour in her head which can only be treated with the proton therapy offered abroad.

The 44-year-old, of Suffolk Way in Horsehay, Telford, wants to travel to Minnesota to start the course of treatment, believing it will give her a better quality of life.

Mrs Fitzpatrick has two daughters aged 10 and 13 and works as a quality, health, safety and environmental manager at Schneider.

Mrs Fitzpatrick is organising a "Floral Summer Ball" to help fund her treatment.

It will take place at Telford Whitehouse Hotel in Wellington on July 23 at 7pm.
