Noahs Ark Nursery, in Newport, also gets fully involved in fundraising and community events, Ofsted inspectors said.

A newly published report, following an inspection that was carried out last month, said children with special educational needs or disabilities made good progress.

Inspector Lesley Bott said staff provided "excellent praise" for children throughout the day, offering them stickers as reward tokens for good behaviour.

The report added: "Staff are consistently good role models to children as they promote respect and tolerance for others.

"Children learn to use their manners, share, take turns and play well together."

Inspectors said staff encourage the schoolchildren to listen, respond to questions and to join in with the words they know, which is helping to build on their communication and language skills.

Children's physical well-being was said to be "effectively promoted".

The report said they regularly spend time playing outside and staff effectively promote exercise.

It said: "All children make good progress from their starting points.

"Children are swiftly becoming confident learners who are well prepared for their next stage in learning, such as school.

"Pre-school children develop literacy and mathematical skills well.

"They count up to 10 and beyond with confidence and enjoy writing and reading activities indoors and outside."

But inspectors said improvements could be made in planning activities to make sure they are focused on "individual learning".

The nursery opened in 2000 and employs 18 members of childcare staff.
