A man was confirmed dead at the scene of a crash between a car and a lorry on the A44 between Kington and Leominster, which happened at about 8pm on Sunday.

Earlier that day, the A49 north of Ludlow was closed by police for five hours and one motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious leg and shoulder injuries after an accident at Bromfield, near Ludlow.

On Saturday, the A4110 north of Leominster was also closed and one casualty flown to hospital by air ambulance after a crash involving one car at Kingsland.

Speaking of the fatal crash on the A44, Murray MacGregor of West Midlands Ambulance Service said:

"Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, the Merit trauma doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene.

"On arrival, ambulance staff found a man in the car who had suffered very serious injuries.

"Working with firefighters, he was rapidly extricated, but his condition worsened and advanced life support was carried out by ambulance staff.

"Sadly, despite all efforts, it was not possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The lorry driver was shaken but uninjured."

The driver who was killed has yet to be named by police.

The A49 crash between two motorcycles happened at about 10.10am on Sunday and was described by police as serious.

It led to the road being closed between Bromfield and Craven Arms, and traffic was diverted around the stretch until about 3pm.

Emily Dixon, speaking for West Mercia Police, said: "One of the riders, a man his 50s, was taken to hospital with leg and shoulder injuries." It was the second serious crash on the A49 in south Shropshire in a matter of days after a van ended up on its roof at the side of the road after an accident with a lorry on Friday. No-one was seriously injured.

On Saturday afternoon the A4110 was closed both ways after a serious crash involving one car at the B4360 junction, near Luctonians Rugby Club in Kingsland.

One casualty was cut free from the wreckage by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service before being airlifted to hospital by a Midlands Air Ambulance helicopter.
