A specialist team was working in and around the Llangollen Canal at Moreton, north of Oswestry.

It followed an extensive search of a smallholding less than a mile away at Henlle near Gobowen last week.

A spokesperson for North Wales police said today: "Police divers are searching parts of the Llangollen Canal as part of the ongoing operation involving the historic murder investigation in the Wrexham area."

Woodland on the outskirts of Bwlchgwyn, near Wrexham, was also subject to a search over the weekend.

Last Wednesday, police and military personnel spent much of the day searching a smallholding in Henlle Lane on the edge of Gobowen, next to a caravan park as part of the search, which was extended to Bwlchgwyn, near Wrexham, on Thursday.

North Wales Police teams have completed their search in Gobowen and are continuing to search forestry on the outskirts of Bwlchgwyn, after receiving information last week that an unidentified man had been murdered and disposed of on the outskirts of the town.

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: "The search at Gobowen has now concluded but the search at forestry in Bwlchgwyn is still ongoing."

The spokeswoman also said the force is unsure when the search would be completed by.
