Telford nurse on a mission in memory of husband John
After losing her husband at just 43, Tracy Lote has been on a mission to honour his memory, raising thousands of pounds and boosting awareness of brain tumours.
She has raised £4,986 to fund research into treatment of the illness since her husband John died in December.
John, who worked as a lorry driver, had been diagnosed four years previously, something which Tracy said changed their lives forever.
Tracy, a nurse at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital who lives in St Georges, Telford, with the couple's two children Thomas, 13, and Jodie, 10, said: "We were a normal family up until four years ago when John collapsed at home. It was completely out of the blue.
"Though I'm a nurse and I do know about brain tumours, it isn't a cancer that has TV adverts and I've heard that less than two per cent of all funding goes to brain tumour charities."
Since John's death, Tracy and her children have done all they can to raise as much money as possible in his memory.
Tracy, a keen runner, took on Ironbridge Half Marathon in March, Jodie held a table top sale and work colleagues at the hospital held cake sales and a pub crawl. Tracy also held a fun day at Priorslee & St Georges Scout hut on Sunday to raise further cash.
Tracy said: "I had begun to raise money for the brain tumour charity because I was shocked at how little money goes into researching this dreadful disease.
"John always supported me in my running and I found it a great release from the daily stresses. I was in control when I was out running, I felt I had lost control of my life once John was diagnosed. We both described the journey like being stuck on a roller coaster.
"I'm on a mission and if it means running, walking, cooking, writing letters, organising events, sharing stuff on Facebook, I will do what I can to raise as much as I can to fund the much-needed research."
