Bridge collapse: Hopes of temporary military-style crossing
A temporary bridge may be set up to help villagers cross the river near the collapsed Eastham Bridge.
Talks are taking place with the Army about the possibility of mounting a military-style Bailey bridge across the River Teme, close to where the 18th century Eastham Bridge dramatically collapsed into the river last week.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has spoken to the Army about the situation following a meeting on Friday with people from the village near Tenbury Wells who now face a 10-mile diversion route via the A443.
She said villagers told her a temporary Bailey bridge was sited just yards from the current crossing during the Second World War.
Mrs Baldwin said: "Having spoken to the villagers, it is clear that they want a short-term solution."
