Diane Browne will be taking the helm at Adcote School in Little Ness, near Shrewsbury, from September.

Mrs Browne comes to the school from Westonbirt School, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, where she is currently director of studies and a former head of English.

Naomi Pritchard, acting headmistress at Adcote, said: "Mrs Browne was an outstanding candidate in the interview process.

"Her passion for high-quality, girls-only education makes her an ideal leader to take the school into the next stage of its development.

"She fully understands the benefits of educating women of the future in a small and caring environment."

Mrs Browne said she was greatly looking forward to her new challenge in Shropshire.

She added: "I am thrilled and proud to be the new headmistress of such a wonderful, happy school.

"I am looking forward to helping Adcote move into a new and exciting phase of its history."

Mrs Brown's appointment comes after former headmaster Gary Wright left his role earlier this year after almost seven years at the school.
