Peter Colin Williams died at his home, in Muxton, Telford. He was 56.

Mr Williams was an entrepreneur and businessman, owner of the company Anglo Portuguese Consultants, which reflected his love of Portugal and particularly the Algarve.

He also owned The Alga Company, which traded in eco-friendly cleaning and horticulture products, again indicative of his commitment to the 'green' economy.

He was in the process of combining the two with a pilot project to recycle domestic waste in the central Algarve community of Sao Bras de Alportel where he and his wife, businesswoman Karen Fearns-Williams, were eventually hoping to settle.

Born in the hospital at RAF Cosford, Mr Williams, of Yew Tree Cottage, Entry Bank, was the youngest son of Bob and Jean Williams and brother to Rob and Roy. The family returned to Shropshire when his father left the Army, initially to run the Little Orchard Stores in Lilleshall.

Mr Williams grew up in and around Lilleshall, Church Aston and Newport and attended the Burton Borough School before taking up an apprenticeship with the Central Electricity Generating Board at Ironbridge Power Station.

He went on to work for a number of companies in the Telford area before moving to Southport in Lancashire from where he also travelled widely on business, particularly to South Africa.

During his youth and into his late 30s Mr Williams was a keen cricketer. He was a popular and active member at both Newport and Wellington clubs.

He went on to become a sponsor and a vice president of Newport Cricket Club. Fittingly, the club will be the venue for a secular tribute to his memory on Monday, June 20, at 1pm.

Following cremation at Telford Crematorium at 3pm – where members of the Newport Club are expected to form a guard of honour – mourners are invited to return to Audley Avenue to join Mr Williams' family in continuing to celebrate his life.

Mr Williams is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter Jessica Marie, 19, and granddaughter Arabella-Esmee.
