Pupils from Old Park Primary, in Telford, star in the internet film that sees actors dress up as astronauts and perform a song that was written in tribute to the pilot who trained as an helicopter instructor at RAF Shawbury.

Major Peake was due to return to Earth today after six months in space.

His progress at the International Space Station has been followed closely by pupils at Old Park Primary School.

So he was the obvious inspiration for a Year 2 class made up of six and seven-year-olds at the site, in Brunel Road, Malinslee, who have been taking part in the In Harmony schools' music programme set up to encourage youngsters to learn to play instruments and compose tunes.

In the YouTube film a 72-strong choir performs in Blasting Into Space for Tim Peake, along with a string ensemble.

It is accompanied by a video, with some of the scenes shot at the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford.

Year 2 teacher Amy Voros said: "It's absolutely fantastic – they're all adorable.

"We started our project on space and we're fortunate enough to be in the In Harmony project.

"We got chatting in the staff room about it, parents had mentioned it doing something. It kind of evolved. It went from being a short little song to being a full music video.

"The whole point of In Harmony is that it is a community thing and parents were excited. The current year twos are learning violin and cello and it gave them a purpose to learn the music.

"Obviously with the topic being space, we've learned about Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake. They knew what was happening and what had happened previously. We used that for inspiration."

"We've had lots of positive feedback. We launched it on Monday and lots of the parents came in the classroom afterwards and watched it together. We've had lots of views on YouTube and Twitter. The children loved it."

The school has tweeted the video to the International Space Station(ISS) in the hope that Major Peake will respond.

He was today due to land in Kazahkstan along with American Tim Kopra and Russian commander Yuri Malenchenkoon.

The video was made with help from students at Coventry University.
