EU referendum: Newport pupils get to vote in own mock poll
Pupils at a Newport school set out their stall in a mock EU referendum debate ahead of the real deal.
Live debates were being concluded today at Burton Borough School, in Newport, by students who have been having their say over the country's future.
Speaking on behalf of the remain campaign were Ethan Mark and Oliver Vickers while the leave campaigners were Brendan Overal and Ben Snaith who have been discussing the moot points for and against staying in the European Union.
During assemblies held this week at the site, in Audley Avenue, all of the student body have been given an opportunity to vote in the mock referendum. The school said its community learning lessons have focused on the big issues that have captured the nation in the run up to polling tomorrow.
Prior to marking their X a 'live debate' has been held in every house assembly ahead of a ballot for each house on each day.
Now the young people are waiting to see if their predictions are in step with the rest of the UK.
The results of the referendum programme, which is being organised by Kay McLean, will be announced tomorrow. Burton Borough is among several schools in the region where pupils are scrutinising the issues surrounding the historic decision.
