Harry Hall: Telford football club launches appeal to build stand in tragic teenager's name
A Shropshire football club has launched a £5,000 fundraising appeal to build a new stand in memory of a popular player who has died.
Allscott AFC and Beacon FC midfielder Harry Hall, 19, passed away in his sleep on Sunday.
Now bosses at Telford side Allscott, based in Shawbirch Road, have set up a crowd funding project to raise the money to create a lasting tribute.
The appeal has so far raised £1,400 since its launch earlier this week.
Allscott AFC manager Chris Scott said that the team was in shock and that Harry, of Warwick Way, Leegomery, was a "perfect example to other players" at the club that was recently promoted to the West Midlands Regional Football League.
Mr Scott said on crowd funding website Just Giving: "A tragedy hit our football club. One of our first team players Harry Hall passed away. He was only 19 and had so much of his life ahead of him. He had so many friends and everybody loved him.
"He will be missed by so many people. All of his team-mates at Allscott AFC have been coming up with ideas of how to keep his memory living on.
"We will be changing our club badge to incorporate his initials within a flame and we have organised a memorial football tournament called The Harry Hall Cup which will be played every year in honour of him.
"This year's event will either be on July 16 or 17 and will involve all of Harry's football teams; Allscott AFC, Beacon FC, Wrockwardine Wood and another team made up of friends who he had a kick about with."
The cost will be £10 to play in the game and £5 to watch.
An autopsy report on the cause of Harry's death is due to be given to his family. His brother Alex, 24, used to play for Ellesmere Rangers.
Also paying tribute on Facebook, Mr Scott said: "I'm devastated that you have left us Harry Hall. You are one in a million mate. It was only last night that we were all sat at the Allscott AFC presentation night and having a laugh.
"I didn't get to tell you but you were so close to winning manager's player of the year because of the way you battled back into the side after not playing much at the start of the season."
