Plea after Newport fly-tippers strike again
Fly tippers have returned to two country roads in Shropshire, leaving behind household furniture and industrial rubbish.
Another load of metal and plastic strips have been dumped on a lane on the east side of the A518 near Newport.
A two-seat settee and two large industrial bags filled with stuffing were also left on Blackberry Bank in nearby Church Aston.
The household waste was dumped on the side of the road, near a gated field. A freezer was left in the trees nearby.
It comes just a week after a mess was left off Wellington Road in Church Aston. Industrial strips, identical to those dumped close to the A518, completely blocked off the path for pedestrians and cyclists.
Councillor Peter Scott, who represents Newport North & West on Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "This is a menace and totally unnecessary. It is just lazy and thoughtless.
"Last year I negotiated a free deal with Telford & Wrekin Council for all Newport area residents to have up to six large items collected free of charge. This runs until September 30.
"We have a new 24/7 facility being opened in Hortonwood in October this year. Most other things can be collected from the kerb.
"I am calling on all residents to report any suspicions as to who is doing this to the police on 101. Together we can stamp out this anti-social and costly practice."
Councillor Scott said that he has called for bollards, signage and discreet CCTV in the Blackberry Bank area.
Anyone who comes across an incident of fly-tipping should report it to the borough council by calling on (01952) 384384.
There is also a council smartphone app for both Apple and Android users called Everyday Telford.
This allows people to report a variety of issues, including fly-tipping, directly from the scene using their phone.
This method also allows them to send the exact location of any rubbish dump scenes to the relevant authority.
