Shropshire weather: Here's one reason to look on the bright side of our soggy summer

The weather's awful in Shropshire – but at least it has produced the rainbow of the year.

It proves that, even in the midst of one of the worst early summers in years, there is beauty to be found.

Persistent, heavy showers with the risk of thunder and hail are predicted by the Met Office for the coming days. That is bad news for weekend events that are again facing a washout.

Shrewsbury Food Festival last weekend reported a 6,000 drop in attendance, purely down to a showery Sunday afternoon. It is a pattern that is likely to continue this weekend, plaguing scores of fetes, carnival and open garden events.
