Woman who parked in Telford slapped with £100 fine from 180 miles away
A woman who parked for 15 minutes in a Telford car park was given a fine from Carlisle - almost 180 miles away.
Karyn Shimmons, of Albrighton, stopped in the Market Street Car Park in Wellington during her lunch hour.
A few days later she received a ticket for £100 from Smart Parking, for using a car park on Lowther Street in Carlisle.
The car park she used in Wellington clearly states that parking is free for the first two hours, but Mrs Shimmons, who works at Wrekin College, was later slapped with the hefty fine accusing her of parking in a space 179 miles away.
Husband Darren Shimmons, the chairman of Albrighton Cricket Club, said: "Smart Parking are a Birmingham-based company so the picture has gone in and they've sent the letter out but obviously confused the car parks.
"The horrible thing about it is that the letter doesn't say where the car park is, it just says Lowther Street so if we hadn't checked we might have just paid it.
"It could have gone to an elderly lady who would have paid it and not realised.
"This mistake is shocking and should not happen, to cause grief to the car owner."
The couple appealed the ticket but Smart Parking say they have cancelled it.
A spokesman said that the ticket was generated in error and was cancelled almost immediately.
It is not the first time a county motorist has been hit with a long-distance parking fine.
Mr Keller who lives in Ketley received five parking tickets from London's Hackney Council who claimed he carried out a series of road offences there – even though he insists he has never visited the borough.
The driver was hit with problems after buying a grey Mazda saloon.
He received a number of parking tickets from a different car, believed to be illegally using the same number plate.
