'Don't put our health at risk': Locals protest new 24/7 tip
Villagers armed with placards are carrying out a series of protests against plans to transform a potato packing plant into a 24/7 rubbish facility.
Residents in Dutton Close in Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton, have made placards to display in the area in protest again the scheme to build the plant at the nearby former Greenvale AP site.
The proposal has already sparked opposition from residents and councillors who are concerned about pollution and in particular toxic waste from the site causing health problems.
Wendy Eley, who has lived in Dutton Close for more than 30 years, said a petition has also been launched against the application.
She said: "The petition already has more than 100 signatures.
"This is the countryside. It is a quiet, peaceful area with low traffic for a healthier life style.
"More than 50 children and 150 adults live in the area and we do not want our health put at risk.
"The noise from the crushers and shredders will be hell. We are also worried about the asbestos dust.
"Warrant Road is a B road and it is not meant for heavy lorries.
"It is already a fast road that the council did a survey on it recently and we were shocked at the speed some people were going.
"We hope Shropshire Council see sense and listen to the residents of surrounding areas and reject this application.
"Let's see our estate bloom with people and not waste dump."
The proposed development includes the construction of the recycling plant, erection of soundproof fencing and a nine-bay storage area.
The plant would deal with more than 180,000 tonnes of rubbish per year.
It would receive rubbish such as glass, garden waste, farm waste, clothes and asbestos and turn them into recyclable materials.
Those behind the scheme said the site already benefits from "extensive and effective" pollution control measures, which they will utilise in order to help reduce the environmental impacts.
