Pictures: Shropshire's Summer braves the shave for cancer charity
Summer Bridgwater had a close encounter with a hair clipper to raise hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.
The nine-year-old, from Leegomery in Telford, was open-mouthed after seeing her new look for the first time in the mirror.
Summer wanted to raise the money after her nan, Rita Peate, fell ill. She is currently being cared for at Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury.
The Apley Wood Primary School pupil was accompanied by her mother, Trudi Bridgwater, and aunt, Jane Peate, to Denise's Hair Salon in Wellington where the shave took place this week.
Jane said: "She was shocked at first but now she's laughing."
The youngster had suggested the idea to her mother after her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer.
Trudi said: "She was looking it all up in her bedroom. She came down and said 'Mum I'm doing this' and I thought it was for a good cause."
"She organised a sponsor sheet and T-shirts to help raise the money and found all the information she needed online. When she sat down in the chair and they started cutting I told her it was too late now. But it looks good."
Summer she said she hadn't been nervous at all and felt "proud" of her achievement. So far she has managed to raise £370 with sponsorship
for the Macmillan Cancer Support.
