Crime and council services in spotlight for Team Shifnal and Team Wem
New projects are being launched to tackle issues and concerns raised in two Shropshire market towns and their surrounding areas.
Known as Team Shifnal and Team Wem, they will support services in the area such as the local councils and police, and will work together with people in the community to identify and respond to issues such as crime.
They are being launched following the success of the 'integrated community management' project run in Shrewsbury under the name of Team Shrewsbury.
The projects are being launched by Shropshire Council which is keen to understand how local people feel about the area where they live and the services they receive there.
Councillor Rosemary Dodd, mayor of Wem, said: "It is a fairly new initiative and the idea is to have one body made up of different groups to look at the area.
"Shropshire Council and the police have decided Wem and Shifnal should pilot the scheme.
"The town clerk, Shropshire Councillor Chris Mellings and David Carpenter from the police have been on a walk around Wem."
Shropshire Council is inviting people to complete a short questionnaire providing thoughts and opinions on the Shifnal or Wem area.
The questionnaire asks people whether they are happy with their local area as a place to live, the services they receive from Shropshire Council such as education and refuse collection, and how safe people feel in their area.
It also asks how much a problem issues such as noisy neighbours, litter, vandalism and drugs are where they live.
Responses will be anonymous, but the council wants people to provide their postcode to ensure that it only includes those who live in the Shifnal or Wem areas.
Team Shrewsbury was unveiled in 2014 to tackle issues faced by people living and working in the area, including helping the vulnerable to find help and promoting the town as a nice place to be.
It received a £20,000 grant in the Government's Our Place scheme to spend on promoting the town.
The partnership includes representatives of several organisations in the town, including Shrewsbury Town Council, Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire & Rescue service. Also on board are Shrewsbury Business Improvement District, Shrewsbury Shopping Centres, Safer Shrewsbury and Shrewsbury Street Pastors.
