Video and pictures: Tour of Britain in Mid Wales

Crowds lined the streets of Mid Wales to welcome some of the country's top cyclists.

Names including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish took part in theTour of Britain which came to the region yesterday.

The competitors took a route from North Wales to Llanidloes, before finishing at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells.

Rod Evans, from Ellesmere, who has just completed his own 392-mile charity cycle ride of Wales watched the leaders as they skirted around the Horseshoe Pass, near Llangollen, while Claire Barkley and Charlotte Duggleby, members of the Bike With Claire women's cycle group biked to Penybonfawr to watch.

Starting in Denbigh, the peloton faced a gruelling 217km ride to the showground.

When they entered Powys, they biked through Llangynog, Llanfihangel, Llwydiarth, Foel, Cemmaes, Llanbrynmair, Staylittle, Llanidloes, Rhayader and Newbridge-on-Wye before heading to the showground.

Councillor Avril York, Powys County Council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "It really was great that these Olympic medal-winning cyclists were in Powys so soon after competing at the Rio Olympic Summer Games.

"This was a great opportunity for residents along the route to cheer them on, along with the other riders, as they rode through the green heart of Wales."
