Shrewsbury factory fire: No cause for alarm says company in wake of blaze
A Shrewsbury company has assured local residents about their safety following a fire earlier this week.
Smoke could be seen billowing from Spel Products, in Lancaster Road, Harlescott, on Tuesday.
But following a call for assurances from town mayor Ioan Jones, the firm has said people living nearby do not need to be worried about chemicals or fibreglass in the air.
Paul Pocock, a spokesman for the firm, said: "The area is very important to us and especially our near neighbours. The fire was under control very quickly thanks to the excellent and highly effective sprinkler system.
"The fire brigade were also excellent in ensuring the fire was properly extinguished and to helping clearing up the water.
"We have carried out an initial investigation and spoken to all concerned and no operator negligence or departure from laid down procedures could be found."
On Wednesday, Councillor Jones called for assurances about what came out of the site during the blaze.

However Mr Pocock said: "The fire presented no danger health wise to the neighbourhood and smoke moved eastward with the prevailing wind.
"The insurance company acting on our behalf stated today that our procedures are robust and cause them no concern."
"They have recently maintained the level of premium for another three years."
