Pop legends Go West boost Telford boy's charity appeal
Eighties pop legends Go West appeared at a concert in Telford organised in honour of a boy suffering from cancer.
Ben's Charity Concert starred Go West and was organised by the Ben Corfield Football Fund. Held at Oakengates Theatre, there were also performances by local bands The Rooz and The Gold Room.
Ben, from Little Wenlock, was just seven when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in February 2015 and has undergone much of his treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
His father Jason said the bands, Furrows Ford and Oakengates Theatre have all been incredibly supportive of the event, and all proceeds will go directly to supporting Birmingham Children's Hospital.
The car dealer has been raising money in honour of eight-year-old Ben, a pupil at Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Primary School, after feeling powerless to help his son. To date they have raised more than £21,000.
Jason said: "A lot of hard work went into organising it but as soon as I saw people here and bands setting up I started to feel a lot more chilled.
"The box office had a few last-minute sales so I think we've had more than 550 tickets sold which is fantastic news."
Mr Corfield said it was too early to say how much the concert had raised but would have an update later this week.
There was also a souvenir programme on sale, a raffle and donation points on the night, to boost the amount raised for the hospital.
Entertainment, introduced by Radio Shropshire's Paul Shuttleworth, continued late into the evening with an after-show party in the bar, featuring an acoustic performance by Rooz lead singer Louis Coupe.
