Frank Bruno boxing glove goes under hammer in Shropshire auction
A framed boxing glove signed by Frank Bruno will go under the hammer next month as part of Richie Woodhall's next auction to raise money for cancer charities.
The white glove is mounted in a wall frame also featuring an image of Bruno's famous 1987 clash with Joe Bugner at White Hart Lane, which had been billed the biggest all-British heavyweight bout since Bugner had taken on Cooper.
It will be auctioned on October 5 by Halls auctioneers in Shrewsbury to raise money for the newly formed Brain Tumour Support group which meets at the Hamar Centre next to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
It is the latest in a series of auctions organised by Telford-based former super-middleweight World Champion Richie as a tribute to his late father Len, who died in July last year after an eight-year battle with cancer.
Richie said: "The glove was donated to me by a guy I met at a boxing event in London," he said.
"I think he did some work with Bruno and heard about what I was doing, and asked if I wanted it."
He said he chose Brain Tumour Support because it did very important work, and he wanted to help people in all parts of Shropshire.
The group was formed at the start of the year, and at the moment meets every three months.
Brain tumour support worker Christine Bettson said anybody diagnosed with the condition was welcome to attend.
"The group environment is relaxed and friendly, a mixture of chat, speakers and sharing of information and experience."
Its next meeting will take place on December 2, from 11am to 12.30.
Richie's last auction, earlier this month, saw a pair of gloves signed by the British Olympic boxing team raised £130 for The Harry Johnson Trust, which supports children being treated by the cancer unit at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
The auction will take place on October 5 at Halls main auction house in Bowmen Way, Battlefield, Shrewsbury, starting at 10am.
It is expected to go under the hammer between 10.45am and 11.15am, and can be viewed between 9.30am and 4.30pm on October 4, and then from 9am onwards on the day of the sale.
Anyone unable to attend on the day, can ask the auctioneer to bid on their behalf up to an agreed limit. Telephone 01743 450700 to arrange this.
Alternatively, it is possible to bid over the internet by registering at www.the-saleroom.com/halls
