Student died when his car 'drifted into the path of lorry' on A41 near Newport
A student died from multiple injuries after his car was involved in a crash on the A41 in Shropshire.
Raviram Ramesh, 22, was driving at Weston Heath, near Newport, when his Citroën C3 drifted into the path of an oncoming 42-tonne articulated lorry, an inquest heard.
The hearing at Shirehall was told that Mr Ramesh, from Bristol, had received four text messages leading up to the time of the crash, although his phone had been on silent and they remained unread.
The inquest was told that driving conditions appeared good at the time of the accident in June and there were no apparent reasons for the crash to have happened.
Michelle Grant, who had been driving three vehicles behind the HGV, was one of the first on the scene. The former police officer called the emergency services.
She said: "I heard a terrific bang and I saw a black Citroën veer into the ditch. I went to the ditch to check on the person and I believed he was unconscious.
"I found a doctor and asked him to check on the gentleman but he confirmed he was deceased. I am an ex-police officer so I then secured the crime scene."
John Manning, who was following Mr Ramesh's car, said the driving conditions were perfect.
He said: "I was travelling back from Chester Zoo with my girlfriend and there were perfect driving conditions.
"There was nothing unusual for two miles then the vehicle seemed to have veered straight over the line and it hit the HGV.
"The Citroën had come off the road and into the verge."
The inquest heard the driver of the HGV, a foreign national who was not at the hearing, had no alcohol in his system and had not used his phone at the time of the crash.
Shropshire coroner John Ellery adjourned the inquest at the request of the family to call Pc Stafford of West Mercia Police to give evidence. He was involved in the collision scene investigation.
The inquest was adjourned to a future date.
