St Matthew's Church of England Aided Primary School and Nursery Centre, in Telford has been rated as a good school, with outstanding features.

At its last full inspection in 2014, the school on Church Road, in Donnington Wood, was given a requires improvement rating.

Headteacher Kate Clark said inspectors recognised the "rapid improvements the school has made" after the recent visit.

She said: "This is testament to the rigour and consistency of the leadership team in their quest to be outstanding.

"It shows the skills and knowledge they have imparted and to all the teaching staff and teaching assistants for giving our children the necessary tools to succeed.

"Our children clearly shine throughout this report.

"The words impeccable, exemplary, highly responsible, polite, well-mannered and respectful, to name but a few, resonate throughout the report.

"The team of inspectors were full of praise for our children who demonstrated they mix harmoniously and have deep respect of different religions and cultures."

The school was also given an outstanding rating for its leadership.

It's early years provision was praised too in the report.

The inspectors said: "The highly stimulating environment fully engages children.

"Children are highly motivated and engaged in their learning."

Mrs Clark said: "It recognises that parents speak highly of the early year's provision.

"They are happy with their children's progress, and that the parental support during the sports carousel was overwhelming."

She added that the good Ofsted rating was a reflection on the hard work of the early years team.

Last Thursday a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools also awarded St Matthew's an outstanding rating following a visit.

The report said: "The uniqueness of this outstanding school is proclaimed from the time you set foot on the site."

Mrs Clark added: "We are so very proud of everything we have achieved this year.

"It is due acknowledgement of everyone in the St Matthew's school community.

The parents and grandparents, governors, office staff, teaching assistants and teachers for their enormous efforts, grit and determination in extremely challenging times."
