Joshua Kirkham, of Telford, joined a team of more than 100 intrepid challengers – including 11 children who lost a parent while serving in the Armed Forces – to take on the Rocksolid Stars obstacle race in Milton Keynes.

The 11-year-old individually raised more than £250 for Scotty's Little Soldiers, a bereaved children's armed forces charity that supported him after the death of his father in 2011.

Joshua was just six when Lance Corporal Christopher Bradshaw died in a crash on the A46 in Nottinghamshire, aged 30.

He was based at RAF Digby, near Scopwick Heath in Lincolnshire.

The brave five to 11-year-olds, who are all members of Scotty's Little Soldiers, and 97 adult fundraisers waded through mud as they took on the muddy obstacle race.

They took part in the race alongside the main adult mud run.

Joshua, who plays for Telford Hornets RFU and is a pupil at William Brookes School in Much Wenlock, said: "My dad was really sporty, he ran the London Marathon and I've always wanted to do something that would make him proud."

Josh joined Scotty's Little Soldiers in July 2014 and said he was thankful for all its support over the years.

Scotty's Little Soldiers was set up by army widow, Nikki Scott, who also took part in the adult's Rocksolid race.
