Welshpool shop closed by council due to rats remains shut
A food shop remains closed almost a week after customers spotted rats.
The council team visited after complaints from a customer.
Officials from the local authority issued a hygiene emergency prohibition notice, ordering the food department of the shop to be closed.
The post office section of the shop is open though.
Lee Evans, a spokesman for the council, said: "Officers from our food safety team are working with the food business operator to ensure that the necessary works are completed so the food business element of the shop can re-open as soon as possible."
Councillor John Powell, cabinet member for environmental health, said: "We received a complaint regarding 1st Stop.
"Staff from our food safety team carried out an inspection of the premises and during the inspection found evidence of rat activity.
"This was brought immediately to the attention of the business operator.
"A hygiene emergency prohibition notice will remain in place while our team works closely with the business operator to resolve this matter." Staff from 1st Stop said they were unable to comment.
