Ian's drone photo of Wrekin sunset is up there with the best
This incredible picture of The Wrekin has been named one of the best drone photographs in the country at a national awards.
Ian Watson, 39, was driving home from work when he noticed the beautiful colours in the sky. He pulled over and set up his drone, taking about 60 pictures.
But it wasn't until the engineer got home and starting editing the snaps that he noticed one in particular stood out to him.
Ian, who now lives in Lightmoor Village, Telford, said: "I stuck the photo on Facebook and it seemed to be getting a lot of likes. I was messaged by one of the organisers of the Best UK Drone Photo Competition, who told me I should submit it to the competition.
"I knew it was a nice photo, but I didn't think it would be recognised in a competition. It really does feel amazing. I'm just doing it for a hobby, for my own interests, but for other people to like it as much as they do gives me the inspiration to take it up as a career.
"That's the goal – there's no better job than your hobby."
Ian won second prize in the drone competition, which was held as part of The Drone Show at Birmingham's NEC.
He said it was a huge achievement, as he was new to drone photography, adding: "I got into drone racing first off the back of a few YouTube videos. It seemed like a good hobby – I've always wanted a remote controlled plane.
"It's a lot more affordable now and it's taking off pretty big. They're even showing the racing on the TV now.
"I started seeing photos taken from drones and thought I'd like to try it."
As part of his new-found hobby, Ian makes sure to always have his drone on hand.
He said: "You never know what you're going to miss if you don't have it with you."
