My house shakes from potholes, says Whitchurch resident

A Whitchurch road plagued with potholes is causing sleepless nights for a resident, who says every lorry that travels past his home causes the building to shake.

David Martin of Sandford said he and his wife have not slept for the past three nights because every time a large vehicle drives past and hits the pothole, the building shakes, causing cracks to form.

Mr Martin said potholes outside their home, on the busy A41, are a long-standing problem, as one particular pothole has been repaired nine times in the past couple of years.

He said: "I really am at the end of my tether, we haven't slept for the past three nights because of this. The one problem pothole has been repaired nine times in the last couple of years, and the last fix was only three weeks ago and it needs repairing again already.

"The public are footing the bill for these repairs, why aren't the council looking at permanently repairing this pothole? It's a complete waste of time and money, and a total embarrassment on the council's part."

Mr Martin said the problem was first reported in 2014 when the couple moved into the house. Victoria Doran, Shropshire Council's highways manager for North East, said: "The defect in question was picked up by the local technician yesterday, before it was reported to us.

"The defect has been raised for a five working days priority repair, in line with our policy.

"Ringway resources are fully committed to repairing defects on a priority basis. The defect in question does not warrant an emergency repair.

"The five day priority repair will be a cut out and patch repair, whereas an emergency repair would be a temporary fill repair.

She added: "The section of the A41 by Mr Martin's house has been included in our programme for surface improvements, which will address the matter permanently."
