Roy and Alice Hamilton, from Bridgnorth, travelled to Ottawa in Canada and got married in their referee kits on the Rideau Canal.

The pair, from High Town, are both officials for the English Ice Hockey Association,.

Alice, aged 41, is a linesman officiated up to Olympic level and she regularly works on Telford Tigers games.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Roy is a referee and has officiated as a linesman to Elite League.

Roy said skating on the Rideau Canal was on their 'bucket list' for some time, and some of Alice's family lives in Ottawa so they opted for a quiet ceremony on the 7.8km stretch of ice with loved-ones in attendance.

Roy, who works at stinkyink.com printing company in Bridgnorth, said: "The wedding was amazing. The weather was good, nice clear skies and it was only -3C which was good as I was wearing a kilt. It's been -17C most of the other days.

"We've had loads of support from people here and back home wishing us well."

The couple met in 2002 when Roy started officiating and was a linesman in the British National League.

Alice, who works at Halo Leisure in Bridgnorth, is originally from Yorkshire, moved to Edinburgh and was working in Dundee, Roy's hometown.

The pair lost touch over the years but reconnected a few years ago, before moving to Bridgnorth in 2010.

When the Ottawa Senators ice hockey team heard of their story, they upgraded their hockey tickets and presented the couple with special jerseys with their names on.

Roy added: "They organised for us to meet the officials after the game. It was amazing.

"Alice needs to get new name plates for her shirts now!"
