New plan for Wellington Leisure Centre
Work has now started to convert part of Wellington's library into a history centre.
The library, at Wellington Civic and Leisure centre will re-open on March 27 and will have a new microfilm and fiche reader with printer, which has been paid for by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Stock from the lower ground floor is being relocated into the main library, with will have a new layout.
Some books have been moved to other libraries and those that were not suitable for keeping have been sold with the income raised spent on new books.
The space that has been cleared on the lower ground floor will become new Wellington Town Council offices.
The former town council space will be used by the council to generate more income for the gym at the Civic and Leisure Centre.
Councillor Liz Clare, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for Culture, said: “This is a re-jig of how we use the space at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre to provide a revised layout that works well for all the organisations that use the building.
“It is another fantastic example of partnership working which shows us working closely with Wellington Town Council to arrive at a solution that all are happy with and I would like to thank everyone involved.”
