The British Ironwork Centre, which is hosting the festival in Partnership with the Lindstrand company, says the two day event, over the August Bank Holiday will celebrate the ballooning history of the town.

Over the weekend there will be, weather permitting, sunrise and late afternoon flights as well as a spectacular evening 'glow' which will see tethered baskets power their burners to music to light up the inflated balloons.

There will also be a balloon race on the Sunday.

Mr Clive Knowles from the Ironwork centre said: "It is only right that the balloon festival takes place here – there is a huge amount of ballooning history in the town thanks to Per Lindstrand."

The event will raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice, in Wrexham which provides specialist palliative care service for patients with life-limiting illness including many from Shropshire.

Per Lindstrand founded his balloon manufacturing company in Oswestry and went on to take part in record breaking adventures with Richard Branson. He now runs Lindstrand Technologies.
