The Shrewsbury Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club celebrated its first birthday with a party at Chiquitos, followed by gin and cocktail tasting.

The group was formed by veterans from the three armed forces and offers a chance for former servicemen and women to meet up and chat.

The group has about 300 members, and gets together twice a month.

About 82 people attended its birthday celebrations on Sunday (MAR 19) including the mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Ioan Jones, himself a former serviceman and a member of the group.

Amanda Cundall, from the club, said: "We're listed as a support group like the Royal British Legion and SSAFA.

"But we get together over breakfast and swap stories, provide friendship.

"It is all about the camaraderie and feeling part of that family again. When you come out of the military you can feel quite isolated because you've lost that community.

"The Shrewsbury group is one of the most active breakfast clubs, there are about 190 clubs worldwide with about 35,000 members."

The group welcomes all veterans, including those from overseas forces.

Amanda said: "The celebration was a super day. We don't just welcome veterans but also their families."
