The brawl started after about 40 minutes. Players from the opposing teams confronted each other after an off the ball incident involving two players.

One supporter watching the game, who declined to be named, said: "It appeared to have started completely off the ball involving two players. Other players started fighting and throwing punches."

The game was being played at Phoenix Sport & Leisure Centre in Dawley, Telford. It is now expected to be the subject of an inquiry.

It is not yet known if the cup game will be replayed.

Referee Mark Coates called the game off just before half time. He said he was unable to comment on the incident.

AFC Telford United currently sit fifth in the under 18 Midland Junior Premier League table, with Saffron Dynamo 11th.

Nobody from the Telford club was available for comment.
