The regulars at the Kings Head in Market Drayton selected and matched four of the six winning numbers in the Irish Lotto.

Syndicate organiser Michael Sillitoe, who placed the £3 bet on behalf of his pals at the Betfred shop in Cheshire Street, is to buy a new bathroom at home.

Pub landlord Mark King is to splash out on new decking for his holiday caravan in Mid Wales, while a third member of the syndicate Cyril Frazier will be paying for some new garage doors at home.

Great grandad Michael, aged 77, who still works as a joiner, said: “I have no choice really about what I am doing with my share – it’s a new bathroom. My wife Jean has wanted it re-tiled and new suite for a while. And she does let me go to the pub more or less when I want so I do owe her!

“We all pick different numbers and I don’t know who got the winning line. It doesn’t matter anyway because we’re a syndicate who have been doing this at Betfred for four years. You could say there have been a few more rounds served up at the Kings Head.”

Landlord Mark added: “My wife Gillian and I have a caravan in Towyn in North Wales and it needs some new decking fitted so that’s where my share will be spent. It is a nice little win that means we can pay for jobs we have all needed to sort out.”

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “Have a few drinks on me fellas. Not too many because you have your 'Captain Sensible' plans and mustn’t go mad!

"Congratulations to regular Betfred customer Michael and his pals who have won big from a small stake. I know where to come for a free pint when I’m in the area that I know well.”
