Dancers make it through to next stage
A group of young dancers has made it one step closer to reaching the finals of a major competition.
Urban Outsteppers dance school, based in Telford, has made it through the regional part of the Teen Star UK Talent Contest and will soon be going against the rest of the West Midlands in the Area Semi-Finals.
The team includes youngsters from the ages of eight to 16 and is led by choreographer and founder Chanelle Green, who appeared on Got to Dance and Britain’s Got Talent.
The 23-year-old, who lives in Newport, teaches primarily at a base in Telford, but also has classes in her home town.
She said: "The next step now is on May 20 which gives us just six weeks to come up with new dances, new costumes, new music – everything!
"The kids can't wait. They are over the moon and were really shocked to get through. There were just so many acts and they were all so different, it was really too hard to call it.
"They won the video of the week as well so it gets to go on the Facebook page. We took so many people along, we had 75 supporters with us."
Urban Outsteppers has 35 to 40 dancers as members, led by Chanelle who also works a full-time job in merchandising for JD Sports, as well as her own freelance dancing.
She said: "This is the semi-finals round now before the finals.
"They are all putting in so much hard work and coming to extra rehearsals, they are really enjoying it.
"The finals could be held somewhere like the O2 but the next stage is really exciting because there could be scouts there, so as well as performing as a group they could be recognised individually by dance scouts."
She added: "The final prize is sponsorship which could include management and publcity for the group. So it really gives them the first step into the world of dancing."
