Drivers were urged to take care this morning after much of Shropshire received a light dusting of snow overnight - with heavier patches in the south of the county.

With temperatures below freezing, a yellow warning for ice and snow remains in place from the Met office until 10am tomorrow and gritters were out on major routes.

In the Midlands, patchy sleet and snow was expected to move in from the north-west during the morning, clearing slowly to the south-east by late afternoon.

Bright or sunny spells were expected to develop through the day, with highs of 3C (37F).

The Met Office added: "Showers will gradually fade overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with icy stretches developing as skies clear, particularly where earlier snow has partly melted."
