Judith Acun was out walking her dog, and also her ill mother's dog, a three year old Jack Russell called Tiny, near Chirk Bank.

Her dog, a springer labrador cross went down an embankment, followed by three-year-old Tiny, but the smaller dog couldn't get back up and was left trapped.

Judith herself tried to rescue the dog but to no avail, and had to call Shropshire Fire and Rescue crews who arrived from Oswestry and Shrewsbury.

Crews used line rescue equipment to free the dog and reunite her with Judith.

She had been looking after the dog for her mother who is in hospital, and she heaped praise on the firefighters for their assistance.

Judith said: "My dog was able to get back up but my mother's wasn't, and we tried to get down but it was just too steep.

"I felt a bit silly and a bit guilty really by ringing the fire brigade but I didn't really know what else I could do.

"They were brilliant when they came, calming the dog down and they got her out and she was safe and well.

"She just walked off as if nothing had happened!

"I can't thank them enough, they were so professional and I just want to thank all over them."

The crews were called at around 1.35pm on Thursday and line rescue equipment was set up with one firefighter going down the embankment to rescue Tiny.

Judith said her mother was pleased her dog was safe and well, and admitted will be keeping the dog on a tight lead from now on.

She added: "I showed my mother the pictures and she did have a bit of a giggle which cheered her up.

"We won't be going on that walk again and I'll be keeping her on a tight lead."
