Firearms charge after Oswestry gun swoop involving US Homeland Security
A man has been charged with a firearms offence following a raid in Oswestry involving UK and American security services.
The raid was part of a joint operation looking into the alleged movement of guns. It involved two US agencies, Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
The man, Kieran Prime, of Queens Flats, has been charged and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court before being remanded in custody. The woman arrested with him has been released under investigation.
Joint operation
Eleanor Harris of West Mercia Police said: “Kieran Prime has been charged with attempting to possess a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.”
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Nally, from West Mercia Police, said the raid was part of a joint operation involving US agencies and followed an operation in Newark, New York, that then transferred to Shropshire.
The raid happened in the centre of Oswestry last Thursday afternoon, as shoppers and office workers watched on. Police in masks and body armour surrounded the building before making the arrests.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Nally said: "We take firearms offences extremely seriously and tackling serious and organised crime remains a priority for West Mercia Police."
