Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed on Friday that remains have been recovered in a search of the Ty Belgrave House Hotel in Aberystwyth.

On July 25, fire crews rescued nine adults and three children from the blaze on the sea front.

A Lithuanian man had been reported missing after the blaze, and a spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police can confirm that the remains of a male have been recovered during the search at Belgrave House Hotel, Aberystwyth.

"The remains have not yet been identified. The family of the missing Lithuanian man have been informed of this development.

"HM Coroner has been updated and a Home Office post-mortem has been arranged.

"The search of the scene continues. Police are in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service over this development.“

A 30-year-old man from Aberystwyth appeared in court last month, charged with arson with intent to endanger life. He is due to appear in court again later this month.
