Athletes, both young and old, novice and elite descended on the town on Sunday, competing for titles in a number of categories.

Organised between Teme Leisure, Ludlow Cycling Club and Ludlow Running Club, the event has grown year on year, and this year welcomed athletes from as far away as Bournemouth.

The event has prizes for best male and female time, oldest competitor, best local, and for the person who comes 22nd in the race.

The men's winner was Kevin Lane, with Hannah Lancaster scooping the women's prize.

Nicky Stewardson, one of the event organisers said it is about making the event inclusive to all.

She said: "It sells itself basically, it sells out every year and is popular as it is one of the last triathlons of the season.

"This year it filled up straight away, and it is great to see around 420 people getting involved in the event.

"Because it is a sprint tri, it isn't too long so it brings in novices which makes it inclusive for all really.

"The volunteers and the marshals are fantastic, and are a key part of the event and we always get some great feedback from them.

"It is in the 22nd year now, and as soon as this one is over we will have a bit of a rest then planning will begin again for 2019."

One of the big names in the race was Andy J Lewis, a European, World and Paralympic champion.

Fresh back from Australia from the World Tri Series, Andy contacted organisers to see if he could take part ahead of going out to race in Lanzarote.

The Olympic gold medallist said: "I've never competed or trained in this part of the world, so it is nice to come here.

"I just needed an event to keep me going ahead of going out soon to Lanzarote.

"It is also great to meet with people, give advice and just answer anyone's questions."
